Introduction

The Diploma is designed to meet the following aims:

  • To provide an educational foundation for a range of entry level careers in hospitality;
  • To provide fundamental studies directly relevant to vocations and professions in the hospitality sector;
  • To enable students to make an immediate contribution in entry level employment in the hospitality sector;
  • To provide flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation for career development and progression to further studies;
  • To develop students’ ability in hospitality services through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the programme;
  • To develop a range of competency skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitude essential for successful performance in working life.
Course Structure

The Diploma course comprises six (6) subject units and a mandatory work based experience. The six (6) subject units are determined by the college from the following list:

This unit enables learners to examine the current nature of hospitality industry, trends and development.

This unit is aimed at pre-intermediate level students. The main focus will be on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as well as grammar and vocabulary-building.

This unit enables learners to gain understanding of customer service policies and the purpose of promoting a customer-focused culture and to gain skills to provide customer service.

This unit provides learners with the framework of the front office organisation and its operations. It aims to enable learners to understand the integration of staff and tasks related to front office operations.

This unit enables learners to examine concepts of housekeeping management in the hospitality industry. One of the principle goals of housekeeping is to serve the needs of guests by providing appropriate care for their accommodations and for other areas in the lodging property.

This unit introduces learners to understand the concepts of service marketing, pricing of services and gain the skills in developing communication mix.

This unit introduces students to the study and thinking skills that students need in order to study efficiently and effectively in post-secondary education.  It also aims to give the students the opportunity to develop the communication skills they need to interact appropriately with their peers and lecturers in the learning situations they will encounter.

This unit provides students a six-month internship with an organization in the hospitality industry. Students will be able to apply knowledge and skills learnt in the course, and gain real-life experience for future career readiness. Students will be able to understand key areas of customer satisfaction, service quality and customer service skills.

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Apply skills and knowledge gained in the course pertaining to the hospitality industry;
  • Identify the fundamental service concepts such as customer satisfaction, service quality and customer service skills;
  • Discuss the fundamental operational concepts of selected areas in the hospitality industry;
  • Discover competent skills to support the operations of selected areas in the hospitality industry;
  • Demonstrate competent skills in communication, problem-solving, decision-making and professional development skills.
Admission Criteria

Age Requirement: At least 16 years old

Academic Requirement

  • At least Grade C6 in any three (3) GCE O-Level subjects or equivalent qualifications.

English Entry Requirement

Students with equivalent foreign qualifications may be admitted provided they are proficient in the English Language, and possess

  • At least D7 at GCE O-Level English OR
  • IELTS 5.0 or equivalent qualifications OR
  • a Pass in English Placement Test determined by the College

Those who fail the English Placement Test will be required to successfully complete the EAP/ESL (Lower Intermediate) course conducted by college

Candidates who successfully complete and pass all 7 modules of this programme, including the Work-based Experience module will be awarded the Diploma in Hospitality Management by Beacon International College.

  • Front Office Assistant/Receptionist: Responsible for managing guest inquiries, reservations, and check-in/check-out processes in hotels, resorts, or serviced apartments.
  • Guest Relations Officer: Handling guest interactions, ensuring customer satisfaction, and managing service-related issues to enhance the guest experience.
  • Housekeeping Supervisor/Attendant: Overseeing the cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of guest rooms and public areas in hotels or resorts, while ensuring that housekeeping staff follow established standards.
  • Customer Service Executive: Managing customer service interactions and resolving issues in a variety of hospitality contexts, such as restaurants, hotels, or travel agencies.
  • Event Coordinator: Organizing and managing events, meetings, and conferences within hotels or specialized event venues, ensuring smooth logistics and guest satisfaction.
  • Food and Beverage Assistant: Supporting operations in restaurants, cafes, or bars within hotels, resorts, or catering services by managing orders, serving customers, and maintaining high service standards.
  • Tourism Consultant: Offering guidance to tourists, planning travel itineraries, and promoting destinations to enhance travel experiences in hotels, resorts, or tourism agencies.
  • Marketing Assistant in Hospitality: Assisting with promotional activities, executing marketing campaigns, and supporting business development within hospitality-related businesses such as hotels or travel agencies.
  • Hotel Management Trainee: Undergoing structured training programs within hotels or resorts to gain an understanding of various departments (front office, housekeeping, F&B, etc.) before progressing into management roles.
  • Hospitality Sales Assistant: Supporting sales efforts by handling client inquiries, promoting special offers, and managing relationships with corporate clients or travel agencies.
  • Tourism Officer: Working within governmental or private tourism organizations to promote tourist destinations, manage tourism projects, and contribute to the local hospitality industry.
  • Concierge: Providing personalized service to hotel guests by assisting with travel arrangements, recommendations, and special requests to ensure a seamless guest experience.
