Our History
The University of East London is a careers-first university.
We prepare our students for the jobs of the future and have been doing this proudly for 125 years.
The University of East London (UEL), founded in 1898, is located in the dynamic boroughs of Newham, East London, with modern campuses in Docklands and Stratford. UEL is home to five schools: Architecture, Computing and Engineering; Arts and Creative Industries; Childhood and Social Care; Health, Sport and Bioscience; and the Royal Docks School of Business and Law.
For over a century, UEL has been at the forefront of change, evolving from the 2nd Industrial Revolution to today’s 4th. UEL prides itself on being a careers-first university with a mission to ensure that its graduates are the first choice for employers. The university’s vision is to advance knowledge and foster innovation for positive change for people and the planet.
Vision 2028
UEL is actively implementing its Vision 2028, a 10-year strategy designed to transform its curriculum, pedagogy, research, and partnerships to drive student, graduate, and community success. UEL’s ambitious goal is to become the UK’s leading careers-focused university, preparing students for the jobs of the future while driving innovation sustainably and inclusively.
Located at the heart of East London’s regeneration, UEL works closely with local industries and global businesses, connecting students with future employers. The growing City Airport and the increasing development of East London as a hub of innovation and creativity position UEL at the epicenter of growth and opportunity.
