Academic Awards
This page outlines the academic awards and grading criteria for Beacon International College’s in-house programmes. It provides details on the certification process, the grading scale, and the recognition of outstanding academic achievements. The information herein is applicable solely to certificates awarded by Beacon International College.
For students enrolled in programmes offered in collaboration with our partner institutions (e.g., Cardiff Metropolitan University/University of East London/Pearson), please note that different award criteria may apply. We encourage you to visit the respective partner institutions’ websites or consult with your programme coordinator for specific details regarding academic awards for these courses. Additionally, our Student Support Services team is available to guide you to the appropriate resources for your particular programme.
Certification
Candidates who successfully complete the required credits/units of the programme will be awarded a Certificate / Diploma / Higher Diploma (where applicable).
- Students are encouraged to work towards achieving Distinction / Merit Overall Course (Qualification) Grade and/ or Top Student Award (applicable for courses award by Beacon and Pearson). Academic recognition is provided to such students if he/she has not infringed the College disciplinary rules and regulations during their course of study.

Overall Course Grade
The Beacon graduating certificate will be tagged with an overall course grade depending on the total grade points achieved by the student. Pass/Fail units, such as internships, are excluded from the computation.
Total Course Point is computed based on “No. of Units x 7 points”.
Distinction Grade will be awarded to students who achieve at least 80% of Total Course Point.
Merit Grade will be awarded to students who achieve at least 40% of Total Course Point.
A Top Student Award will be awarded to a student who achieves a Distinction / Merit Overall Course (Qualification) Grade and obtains the highest score in his/her course for the period. The Top Student Award is issued once a year to eligible students from each active course.
All students shall achieve at least 75% of attendance for award.
