Introduction

This course is designed to give you the opportunity to:

  • Achieve a sound theoretical and conceptual grounding in international fashion business
  • Be able to collect and critically analyse information in different business aspects to support the strategic decision-making process.
  • Develop a range of personal and analytical skills, including effective communication and listening skills using a range of media and the ability to prepare and present business reports
  • Enhance professional skills through industry collaborations and involvement on the course.
Course Content

The Master of Arts International Fashion Business comprises of six (6) units from the following list determined by the College:

Core Module

The module aims to develop your skills in analysing and articulating individual creative practice competencies, in order to satisfy identified opportunities to realise their value. The module will focus on building relevant applied ‘business’ skills in market research, project management, funding applications, budgeting, risk assessment and dissemination. You will engage with current theories and practises of entrepreneurship, mentoring, networking and collaborative working.

The module will provide opportunities for students to study trends forecasting and use the outcomes to predict and develop buying strategies.

Students will analyse international supply chains in the fashion sector and build knowledge of relevant business models through research and case studies.

The Internship option is only available for students studying in the UEL UK campus. Students in Singapore will enrol into the Fashion Consultancy Project.

This module will provide an opportunity for you to:

  • Experience professional engagement in a context relevant to your individual practice or chosen career path through the completion of a Fashion Consultancy Project. You will also use this as an opportunity to design, curate and realise a presentation of your collection.
  • Research, identify and pursue appropriate realistic Fashion Consultancy Project
  • opportunities.
  • Enhance professional practice through experiential understanding and development of practical skills.
  • Recognise and report on their understanding of various roles within a professional team.
  • Give opportunities for networking environments.
  • Record and reflect upon experiences to enhance your ability to future careers.

This module aims to:

  • Enable you to identify a research topic in the context of International Fashion Management
  • Explore the literature relevant to the research
  • Develop a research methodology to test your proposal using appropriate data collection methods
  • Examine research findings and analyse, synthesise and critically appraise.
  • Enable you to work with high personal effectiveness to submit an academic dissertation
  • Enable you to reflect on your own development and career aspirations using the reflective journal as a tool.

The aim of this module is to enable the student to experience professional engagement in a context relevant to their individual practice or chosen career path within the subject area. Professional engagement can take place within a wide variety of contexts. For example, the student may choose to design and manage a live project, submit for a competition, design and run a workshop or digital campaign.

Option Module determined by the College

The overall aims of the module are:

  • To enable you to acquire expertise in developing cross-cultural fashion marketing & PR strategies to extend your range of marketing communications understanding both to deal with global marketing situations in non-domestic markets and the impact of global competitors on the domestic market;
  • To promote an understanding of the strategic factors determining the extent to which standardisation in strategy and implementation is appropriate for success in international markets;
  • To enable you to develop a sophisticated understanding of the formulation and implementation of integrated global marketing and PR plans and associated activities.

The overall aims of the module are:

  • To understand the key concepts and principles of luxury brand management
  • To understand the relevant environmental factors impacting the luxury market, current trends and new marketing approaches.
  • To understand contemporary issues in terms of luxury management and marketing
Admission Criteria

Age Requirement

At least 20 years old

Academic Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum Second Class (2:2) or equivalent with evidenced knowledge of the fashion industry.
  • A non-graduate qualification for mature students who are at least 30 years old and with minimum 8 years of working experience.

English Entry Requirement

  • Overall IELTS 6.0 with minimum 6.0 in writing and speaking, and 5.5 in listening and reading.
  • or the equivalent qualification.

Exemptions / Credit Transfer / Advanced Standing

Candidates who do not hold such qualifications (i.e.: formal qualifications which marginally fall short of the normal minimum entry requirements) and are at least 30 years old will be assessed as to their suitability through interview, and where necessary the taking of references. They should be compensated for by his/her relevant work experience provided that such candidates have held, for a minimum of eight years, a responsible position which is relevant to the Master’s degree to be pursued.
