Introduction

This course is designed to give learners the opportunity to:

  • Evaluate the main features and dynamics of a broad range of areas of business and management, including their interrelationship from an international and intercultural context.
  • Critically analyse data sets and learn techniques to utilise data to create, evaluate and propose solutions to complex business problems.
  • Understand the key drivers influencing decision-making in a global environment by senior managers.
  • Communicate complex business ideas and arguments in a timely and effective manner both individually and as part of a group/team.
  • Synthesise and communicate innovative developments, strategies and approaches to leadership that are relevant for the contemporary multinational business looking to secure a sustainable future.

 

Course Content

The Bachelor of Science Honours International Business Management Top-up is a one-year top up degree that consists of six (6) core modules determined by the College.

Core Modules

This module will develop core employability skills and allow you to develop and demonstrate skills in

  1. the analysis of a problem
  2. planning and organising a task, including time management
  3. exercising judgement in the light of observed and published data
  4. compiling a report,
  5. teamwork and collaboration and
  6. use of appropriate technologies.

The module aims to develop a critical appreciation of the key principles of business ethics, corporate responsibility/citizenship and sustainability, and the relation of these to the workplace. It will encourage you to critique theories of management and leadership from the perspective of ethics.

This module is designed to develop a critical awareness of the challenges of managing a multicultural workforce typical of transnational and multinational organisations. You will learn about the challenges facing leaders in multinational organisations and the impact of cultural differences in the workforce. You will be introduced to different leadership styles and the manner in which they assist the leader in working with cultural and geographic diversity as well as the need to uphold ethical leadership.

In this module, you will locate the development of both marketing ideas and applications within the wider global, social and economic contexts. It is less driven by textbooks and more driven by journals, special reports and sundry publications such as professional marketing periodicals. It aims to get you to actively participate in your own learning, take responsibility for your learning, enhance currency and balance of knowledge, relate learning to the everydayness of marketing practices/ challenges and develop the capacity to trailing/analyse/synthesise the latest marketing issues.

This module will enable you to critically appreciate a range of tools and techniques that aid the development of entrepreneurial activity from the position of the entrepreneur and that of the intrapreneur. You will engage in activities which will develop your abilities for idea prioritisation and recognise those that are worthy of pursuit in terms of the wider operational framework, market and economic conditions.

This module will expand your knowledge of trading relations and finance in an international sphere, looking at both theoretical approaches and contemporary developments. The module will also enable you to analyse the key financial decisions of a multinational firm when operating in an international setting across a range of financial contexts.

At least 18 years old

Academic Requirement

  • At least BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma or Polytechnics’ Diplomas in Business/Management related field (equivalent to 1st and 2nd Year EDP).
  • Applicants may apply on the basis of RPL and RPEL for admission with Credit, subject to University’s assessment on a case by case basis.

English Entry Requirement

  • Students with equivalent foreign qualifications may be admitted provided they are proficient in the English Language, and process a minimum overall score of IELTS 6.0, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each area,
  • or the equivalent qualification.
